Perfume and cologne are among the common and most used cosmetics. Long before, usage of perfume was only limited to women but things have changed and men also woke up to the fragrances of perfume and cologne. There are quite a lot of perfume and cologne varieties for the men to choose from. The products are brilliantly packaged and marketed so that the customers can be aware about the products.

Don’t think that perfume preparation is a relatively new concept. During very old times; perfumes were created in different ways. The word ‘perfume’ was inspired from ‘per fumum’, which is a Latin word. Meaning of this word is ‘through smoke.’ Earlier, a pleasant smelling smoke was used to provide sweet fragrance in the body.

Now, people do not use smoke anymore as perfumes are now prepared by using fixatives solvents, essential oils, fragrance compounds and lot more. These components are now mixed to produce excellent fragrance. There are different varieties of scents in the perfumes. This means that different sets of aromatic compounds are mixed in a solvent to provide different fragrances. The combination of essential oils and aromatic compounds are not same for every perfume and cologne and hence there are different uniqueness and distinct appeal in different perfumes.

Different brands come with certain uniqueness in the content but there are few common ingredients. Perfume oil must be diluted with a solvent otherwise these oils can cause skin irritation on wearing. This is because these perfume oils includes certain chemical components which are not good to be applied directly on clothing or skin. Also the odor of raw perfume oil is so strong that it better not to apply directly. Thus, some perfume companies mix perfume oil with coconut oil or jojoba oil.

Men needs to wear perfume and cologne in three stages- the base coat, the middle coat and the top coat. The top stage will provide immediate impression to them who are near the person who is wearing the perfume. The second stage maintains stability of the perfume for long duration and the third stage is essential as there is an evaporation process of the perfume. Proper usage of perfume can provide long lasting freshness.

Cologne is a variety of fragrance that is used by men only. The word cologne has been derived from Eau de Cologne and its base is in Germany. Cologne is prepared by mixing varied essential oils with dilute ethanol. Some of the common essential oils used in cologne are cologne are tangerine, lemon, orange, lavender oils, bergamot, neroli, jasmine, rosemary, thyme, and petitgrain.

Apart from excellent smell, perfume and cologne provides several other benefits. Wearing a perfume or cologne gives a great feeling and enhances one’s confidence level. Perfume and cologne also increases enthusiasm, excitement, affection and love. Most importantly, it builds up personality of the person who is wearing perfume or cologne.
