If you would like to assist people with their daily work and home tasks, there are many jobs as occupational therapists that could be right for you. In recent and coming years, there is a tremendous increase in occupational therapist employment, most significantly if you work with the elderly. Some specific occupational therapy careers where workers are needed are in preventing falls and rehabilitating drivers. However, these professionals can assist any individual in any stage of life with the different daily living or work related tasks that need to be performed in order for the patient to function at his or her highest level.
If you want to pursue occupational therapist jobs, occupational therapy training is essential. A minimum of a Master’s Degree is required. Training in what you need to know as an occupational therapist on top of learning physical, behavioural and biological sciences are prerequisites in any program. If you want to enter this field, you will need to endure 6 months of practical training with a supervisor. You will also need a licence since this field is controlled by each state. The requirements may vary from state to state. Generally, in order to qualify for licensure, the individual must complete an accredited program and pass a certification exam. To keep your license, you will need to always continue your education.
