Adding insulation to an existing home can be difficult. There are not a lot of available options unless you plan to remove your plaster and drywall. It would be easy to install insulation if your walls were open. One option may be blown in insulation if you do not intend to open their walls up. You would need to put small holes in your home’s exterior to allow the spray equipment to blow in the insulation. One good alternative you have is the addition of insulating paint. There are many different brands of insulating paint that you can purchase nowadays. They all work by either mixing an additive with your existing paint or applying layers of thermal paint to your inside walls. You will get the best results if you use multiple coats. While just about any paint you can use has some insulating properties, insulting paint in particular will give you much better results.
Insulting paint works by creating a layer that will prevent the passage of either cold or heat through your walls. Tiny ceramic beads in the paint create a special vacuum on the wall surface. While there are always products that make false claims about being developed by NASA when it comes to insulating paint that claim is really true. Insulating paints were initially developed at the Ames Research Center which is a division of NASA.
There is not complete consensus about the performance claims made by insulting paint manufacturers. Often you will get different performance claims from the various manufacturers. Some will claim that R values can only really be made for materials which are more than an inch thick.
